アメリカ連邦国家従業員に配られたピンバッジです。
一般企業の社員証みたいな感じです。


アメリカ合衆国はそもそも、当初は13の別々に作られた植民地の集まりとして始まったものです。そのため、それぞれの植民地の独立性を維持しつつ、国全体としての政治を行えるように中央政府である連邦政府が作られたという経緯があります。

そもそも、アメリカ合衆国が誕生したのは、連邦政府が誕生した1789年です。
しかし、この時はそれぞれが主権を持つ13の「邦3」が連合した、いわば半主権国家的な状態で、それは「アメリカ」というまとまった国家ではなく国家の連合体（アメリカ連合）だったのです。

さらに、アメリカ連合は連合規約という邦の政治を規制するルールを持っていたもの、その規約を変えるためには邦の全会一致が必要で、利害を侵害される邦が反対票を入れれば改正できなかったのです。
こうした経緯から、「アメリカ連合」を「アメリカ合衆国」というまとまりのある国家に発展させるために、1787年に各邦の代表がフィラデルフィアに集まり、4か月缶詰になって議論し起草したのが「アメリカ合衆国憲法」なのです。
1789年には、憲法にもとづいて連邦政府が発足し現在につながるアメリカという国の形が規定されたのです。
